Outdoor Markets

Why shop in supermarkets when you can stroll languidly through a different charming village each day, discovering fresh new ingredients with which to concoct up a lunch or prepare an evening feast? We love the outdoor markets of Provence. Sure we get our bulk items (pasta, condiments and toilet paper) from the local Auchan or Carrefour but everything else we buy fresh - adapting our meals to the seasons and whatever produce is ripe. The trick is to behave like locals - get up at the crack of dawn and be done with your shopping by 10h00 when the Tourists start arriving in hordes. It's great to be done with your "courses", sitting in the shade, lazily dunking your croissant into your "cafe au lait" and watching them run around, sweating as the heat of the day intensifies, as they pick through the leftover produce. Who needs TV?
